Submitting Gems, Pearls, or Jewellery for testing 



Instructions for members of the jewellery trade:

  1. Obtain quotation in advance if required.
  2. Read and accept ‘Conditions of Use’, especially with regard to your responsibility to insure the items being sent.
  3. Send items by Royal Mail Special Delivery or secure courier as instructed by your insurance company.
  4. Items will be returned by special delivery unless otherwise instructed.

 

Instructions for members of the public:

 

  1. The easiest method for sending item/s for testing is to submit them to a local jeweller who will arrange the whole matter for you, which importantly includes insuring your item/s.

 

Otherwise:

 

  1. Contact the Laboratory by e-mail with your contact details, a description of the item being sent, and its value. This should be done before sending any items in order to establish whether insurance needs to be arranged to cover sending your gemstones and/or jewellery by Royal Mail Special Delivery.
  2. The gemstones and/or jewellery should be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery with the appropriate level of insurance cover (level 1 - £500, level 2 - £1,000, level 3 - £2,500). If the value of the item/s is higher than £2,500 then insurance must be arranged and a premium paid in advance.
  3. Items will be returned by special delivery unless otherwise instructed.
